PDF Aloud Doesn't Work With Adobe Reader

Texthelp not integrating with Adobe Reader is usually a result of Adobe Reader not being installed when Texthelp Read and Write is beng installed, the same issue may perhaps be caused by Adobe Reader reinstallation

To fix,

  • Uninstall Texthelp Read and Write
  • Install Adobe Reader if not already installed
  • Reinstall Texthelp Read and Write. Note, this can be found at www.texthelp.com/essentials

Windows 8 Boot Problems

Although there are many possible causes of a failure to boot, hard disc problems being quite common, with windows 8 we see some laptops failing to boot due to updates, often leaving the computer with a completely blank screen

With Windows 8 being more tightly integrated with the boot process, some updates can take a lengthy amount of time to complete. In addition, we've seen times where update configuration doesn't seem to run successfully or be triggered properly on boot.

This can sometimes be fixed successfully by following the steps below

  • Forcing shutdown by holding down the power button for 10 seconds
  • Removing the battery for 10 seconds or so to make sure we're starting from a cold boot
  • Restarting the computer
  • Waiting for updates to configure
  • Repeating the process 2-3 times if needed

My Internet Browser on Windows has lots of Popups

This is usually caused by having malware software installed, which installs nuisance extensions into your web browser.

Ideally, you should follow our full Malware Cleaning Guide, but you can reset your browsers settings, extensions, cookies and so on quickly and easily by following the steps below.

  • From the start menu, open 'Uninstall a Program'
  • Remove any toolbar, shopping, search programs
  • For Internet Explorer
    • Open Settings in Internet Explorer
    • Click on 'Internet Options'
    • Go to the 'Advanced Tab'
    • Click the 'Reset' Button
  • For Chrome
    • Open Settings in Chrome
    • Click on 'Show Advanced Settings'
    • Scroll down to the bottom
    • Click the 'Reset Broswer Settings' Button
  • For Firefox
    • Open Help->Troubleshotting Information from the Frefox menu
    • Click on 'Reset Firefox'

Microsoft Office Crashes on Startup

Earlier editions of Abby Finereader 9, which is installed as part of your Plustek Optibook install, installed plugins for Microsoft Office which would crash all Office applications on startup.

  • Open Abby Finereader
  • Open Help->Updates, this will open an update page on your browser
  • Download the Plustek Optibook update
  • Open 'Uninstall a Program' on your computer and remove Abby Finereader
  • Install the new version of Abby Finereader
